ANNOUNCING NASW'S CONGRESS WEB
Please visit www.socialworkers.org/advocacy/congressweb.htm to
get a glimpse of NASW's legislative advocacy tool, Congress Web.
This new software will allow NASW members to respond to legislative
alerts by contacting members of Congress directly through the
NASW website. Congress Web works by going to the Advocacy section
of the website and clicking on the new "Take Action" icon.
The process takes no longer than 5 minutes. There are four quick
steps to completing this process.
STEP 1
Enter your zip code and Congress Web will give you the names of
your U.S Senators and Representatives in Congress.
STEP 2
Congress Web will ask you to enter your name, address and telephone
number. This information will be merged onto your letter to your
legislator.
STEP 3
Now you can choose the message to be sent to your legislators.
You can draft your own letter or select one of the form letters
that NASW Government Relations will post on the web site on priority
issues. If you do decide to use the letter drafted, adding personal
information will make your letter more effective. (Example: I
know first hand about violence in our schools because I have
been a school social worker for 8 years.)
STEP 4
After composing or selecting the letter, you can print the letter
to send by mail or fax, or send the letter via email through
Congress Web! Congress Web will forward a copy of the letter
to your email account for your record. It is always more effective
to send a fax or hard copy through the mail, but if time does
not allow, an email is also valuable!
The process is that simple!
